What are cookies?

Finally, there is another classification with five types of cookies based on the purpose for which the data obtained is processed:

  • Technical cookies: these enable the user to navigate a website, platform or application and to use the various options or services available on it, such as managing traffic and data communication, identifying the session, accessing restricted areas, remembering the items included in an order, completing the purchase process for an order, submitting a registration or participation request for an event, using security features whilst browsing, storing content for the streaming of videos or audio, or sharing content via social media.
  • Personalisation cookies: these allow the user to access the service with certain predefined general characteristics based on a series of criteria on the user’s device, such as the language, the type of browser used to access the service, the regional settings from which the service is accessed, etc.
  • Analytics cookies: these enable the controller to track and analyse the behaviour of users on the websites to which they are linked. The information collected via this type of cookie is used to measure the activity of websites, applications or platforms and to create browsing profiles of users of such sites, applications and platforms, with the aim of making improvements based on the analysis of how users utilise the service.
  • Advertising cookies: these enable advertising spaces to be managed as effectively as possible.
  • Behavioural advertising (or marketing) cookies: these store information on user behaviour obtained through the continuous observation of their browsing habits, which allows a specific profile to be developed to display advertising based on that behaviour.
  • External social media cookies: these are used to enable visitors to interact with content from various social media platforms (Facebook, YouTube, Twitter, LinkedIn, etc.) and are generated solely for users of those social media platforms. The terms of use for these cookies and the information collected are governed by the privacy policy of the relevant social media platform.
